Roc-A-Fella Records Presents Teairra Marí is the debut album by recording artist Teairra Marí. It was released on August 2, 2005, by Roc-A-Fella Records.[1] The album debuted in the top five selling 69,000 copies in the first week, eventually selling 248,000 units.[4]
Background
At the age of 16, K.I.S.S.' Big Mike felt that Marí was ready for the big time, and he brought the R&B starlet in front of a who's who of label execs. Candy Tookes, a friend of Big Mike, introduced the pair to industry veteran Daryl Simmons in Atlanta, Georgia. Simmons then shared Marí's K.I.S.S. Productions-produced demo disc with Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, Chairman of The Island Def Jam Music Group. After hearing Teairra Marí perform live, Reid offered her a contract on the spot.[5] According to Shakir Stewart, VP A&R at Def Jam, in an interview with HitQuarters, 'Teairra was a star when she walked into the room. She captured the room when she did her audition. We fell in love with her from day one.'[5]
Singles
- The first single from the album was 'Make Her Feel Good'. 'Make Her Feel Good' received radio airplay and reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.[citation needed] The video got very little play on MTV, but strong play on BET. The single did not debut on TRL after its premiere. On BET's 106 & Park it peaked at number two.[citation needed]
- The second single was 'No Daddy'. The hip-hop influenced track gained a lot of votes on MTV's TRL, peaking at number four.[citation needed] It peaked at a number 84 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[citation needed]
- 'Phone Booth' was released as the third single but only received a radio release since the video shoot was cancelled.[citation needed]
